I Am A Leaf
I am a leaf.
I am attached to the branch and secure.
I find comfort in the other leaves and they sometimes shield me from harm.
I breathe in the perfume of the flowers near me in the Spring. The air is fresh and I feel young!
Growing stronger through the summer season, I shine with the dew and enjoy the massage of the gentle rain.
I am a leaf.
As the months progress and Autumn arrives I change into my best finery.
I love to show off my fire colours but I also start to get nervous.
When the cold arrives I know that my age will start showing. I hate the cold and I despise the knowledge that my skin will feel dry and appear colourless.
And of course- I know I will have to let go.
Letting go! How can I leave the branch, the group I have belonged to for as long as I can remember?
I am so afraid. What will happen to me? Where will I go? Why do I have to do this next step all by myself?
And suddenly, it is time.
And it happens.
I am falling.
I am alone.
I am twisting.
I am turning…..
I…
Am….
Dancing!
I turn my body to the sun and feel the warmth as the soft breeze lifts me higher and higher and HIGHER!
I am free. I am giddy. I am FLYING!
And I’m not alone. Wait. What?
I’m NOT ALONE!
We dance.
We twirl.
We spin.
I am a leaf. WE are leaves.
And that is o.k..
New adventures await….
