Holy Silence

Tick tock - tick tock - tick tock - tick tock.

I sit in silence.

But for the counting of the seconds on the nearby clock.

I breathe in.

One, two, three ,four.

I breathe out.

One, two, three, four.

Each second counted out echoing the beating of my heart.

One, two, three, four.

I am alive.

….. two, three, four.

I am quiet.

….two, three, four.

But I am not alone.

I am aware of a bird singing in the distance. I hear this because I am still. I am silent.

There is peace.

….two, three, four.

But my thoughts are loud.

I try to quiet them as well but it is so difficult.

I am not worried at the moment.

One, two, three, four.

My eyes are closed.

I see colour there.

A growl from my stomach. A drip from the tap.

I try to be still. With my thoughts. With my awareness.

If you can hear my inner voice you know I love you.

I know you know me.

I long to know you better.

One, two, three, four.

Tick tock.

Come Holy Spirit.

Teach me to rest in your holy silence.
