Finding Light in Times of Darkness
It is “Good” Friday. I know many people struggle with what could be good about the crucifiction of Christ. Dark days indeed.
In my life currently, I know someone who is suffering with kidney stones.
I have been asked to pray for 2 people who are dying.
One of my best friends is dealing with a rare disease and her husband is recovering from a horrific bicycle crash.
I know someone who had a big scare with his pacemaker, a dear friend who recently had a seizure and chipped a bone in his back, and yet another close friend who after suffering a recent heart attack is now trying to recover from a stroke.
It is the season of Lent, the 40 days leading up to Easter. Sometimes I think of this as a time of darkness.
But the truth as we all know is that our world has been covered in a shroud of darkness for quite some time.
Think of those in Ukraine, Russia, Israel, Palestine, Iraq, Yemen, Sudan, and Ethiopia to name but a few …who are devastated by wars.
Are people “ honouring one another above yourselves” ( Romans 12:10) in our country’s administrations ?
I know you are scared too.
I know you also know those who are suffering ….or maybe you are right now.
Do you believe that God is aware of “every sparrow that falls” and can “count the hairs on our head”? (Luke 12:7)
Do you believe in Easter? The joyful day that Jesus rose from the darkness of death?
If you are looking for peace…open a bible and read a bit. Try the psalms to see that you are not alone. People have been crying out to God for centuries….and God has been giving his incredible gift of peace.
God is that light in the darkness and soon Easter will remind me of why I believe.
Jesus suffered more than we could ever imagine but he rose again to show us the way. To show us that death is not even the end of the story for those who love him.
He showed us that we will not live pain free lives but he will be right there beside us. If we believe we can join him in Heaven some day…. a new world where there will be no more darkness, no more pain, and no more tears. (Revelation 21:4)
Why not take a chance and whisper a prayer from your heart to him today?
Free yourself from feeling alone in your sufferings and worry.
Let’s look for the light.
God’s got this….and so do you.
Take a chance! What have you got to lose? Easter’s coming!
