Montreal Smoked Meat, Notre Dame, And a quest for Pumpkin Pie
Blessed with another sunny day for our exploring, we started off walking the streets and checking out the shops.
We ended up in notre dame basilica and it was a feast for the eyes and a blessing for the soul. It was built in only 5 years…1824 to 1829 ! The current interior was commissioned in 1870 and it is modelled after a church in paris. The first thing that stuck me was the vivid blues when you walk in the front door. Apparently the catholic church renovated to this larger version of itself to ‘outdo’ the large protestant church down the street…ha ha.
Next up it was time to treat ourselves to another montreal classic : schwartz’s for smoked meat sandwiches. We were crowded around a communal table of like minded fans and we all enjoyed chatting about our travels and our love of the yummy food.
I must admit my cravings for pumpkin pie were not fulfilled in this city as the french here do not make a big deal of thanksgiving we were told. But terry googled our way to ‘ rustique’ pie shop and we were able to at least procure some pumpkin tarts. ( I’ll just have to wait until next year to once again enjoy ‘earl’s’ pumpkin pie in edmonton !)
One more massage for terry and his healing back , salmon dinner around the corner at ‘baton rouge’ and tomorrow on the road again…..
