Masses to Remember

Have you ever had your bottom pinched by a church pew? Have you ever knelt on a soft kneeler only to be stabbed by a nail or screw? Youch!

These are the pews and kneelers that we’ve been using for years and years and they are literally on their last legs.

So our wonderful Fr. Dean has done everything he can think of to bring in money to pay for new pews from the classic bake sales to fun events at our church like “Oilers watch parties”.

Well, despite still owing quite a bit of money we will be getting new pews. One sunday he helped organize the cutest skit with some altar girls with ‘Princess Leia” hairstyles. They had to fight the dark force with imaginary guns that shot out …”Pew. Pew. Pew.” ha ha…while Fr. Dean narrated the story of how we need help to win the fight for new pews.

One Sunday, he pre-planned for Terry to jump up, rub his bottom and say, “OUCH” during a talk about “Has anyone noticed we need new pews?”

Another Sunday he told the congregation that he had the ‘DEAL FOR THEM’ ! We could either buy an old pew for $200. or the staff would bring it right to your home ….for $300 ! Ha ha.

But….it’s finally happening!

Recently, because the new pews were being set up we had another special mass. Fr. Dean performed the service outside on Canada Day Weekend. It was beautiful. The rain held off and for our last song we turned around, faced the Canadian Flag and sang “Oh Canada”. It was quite moving.

Some people dressed up in their red and whites like us. There were people from all 4 of our masses because there would only be one mass that day. The rest would find other churches for the day. We are so blessed to have so many young families with children at our church. I love seeing the wee ones come back from dropping a few coins in the basket used to help other children.

Ana played music and led the singing, our sound system worked, and it was a communion of believers gathered under the sun. Beautiful.
