FINDING BEAUTY

IT CAN BE DIFFICULT FOR ME TO FIND THE BEAUTY IN THE SNOW MID APRIL…ESPECIALLY WHEN OUR FAMILIES ON EITHER SIDE OF THE COUNTRY ARE EXPERIENCING SPRING FLOWERS AND SMELLING THE INTOXICATING PERFUME OF FRESHLY MOWED GRASS.

BUT IF I REALLY LOOK AROUND I CAN FIND THE BEAUTY IN LONG SHADOWS CROSSING PATHWAYS AND SNOWY GULLIES OR THE SPIKEY BEAUTY OF STRAW COLOURED THISTLES.

THE SKIES ARE USUALLY BLUE HERE IN EDMONTON AND THE CLOUDS USUALLY BILLOWY AND LOW. THERE ARE JACKRABBITS EVERYWHERE AND AS MUCH AS I DON’T LOVE THE PERSONALITY …MAGPIES ARE BEAUTIFUL BIRDS IN THEIR VIVID ‘TUXEDOES’ AGAINST THE STARK WHITE OF THE SNOW.

IT FEELS GOOD TO GET OUT ON THESE WALKS AND FEEL THE COOL AGAINST MY FACE AND THE BLESSING OF HAVING A STRONG ARM TO LEAN AGAINST. IN FACT, LAST YEAR I COULDN’T WALK WITHOUT A CANE AND NOW I CAN.  IT’S BEEN ABOUT 30 YEARS SINCE I COULD SAY THAT.

WE FIND DIFFERENT ROUTES TO MAKE THE WALKS EVEN MORE INTERESTING AND OUR WARM HOME FEELS SO INVITING WHEN WE SHED OUR PARKAS , BOOTS, MITTS AND TOQUES AND POP ON THE KETTLE FOR AN AFTERNOON TEA BREAK.

I SEE BEAUTY EVERYWHERE BUT I DO LOOK FORWARD TO SITTING ON MY FRONT PORCH THIS SUMMER AND WATCHING THE FLOWERS SPREAD THEIR PETALS TO WELCOME THE SUN. I’LL BE WELCOMING HER AS WELL.
