Fort Edmonton

I was very surprised at how long we spent at Fort Edmonton during one of the hottest days of the week but it was such a great experience for our wee ones that they were in no hurry to leave. Even our baby R was happy and lasted the four hours.

The boys checked out the site map and we tried to get on the train but the engineer was quite late. So instead we hopped the streetcar and headed over to the new Indigenous section of the Fort.

Otto tried his hand at drumming after a lesson in removing fur from a deer skin. Both boys helped the helpful docent to erect a teepee…one branch at a time. Then it was off to the actual Fort itself for a self guided tour.

We continued following the map and discovered a cute town from 1886. This is where we decided to stop for a yummy lunch from the Kelly’s Saloon.

Lunch consisted of fruit kabobs, waffle fries, a burger for Terry with coleslaw, fat, homemade pretzels, and chocolate chip cookies. They were all delicious and the service was very fast. It was fun to speak with the many costumed volunteers and employees who are scattered throughout each ‘town’.

Next up, we got back on the streetcar and headed over to the newly renovated “Exposition”.

Our grandsons’ number one wish was to ride the ferris wheel. So although the lineup was fairly long, we gave the boys a choice and they were happy to wait it out. After a 40 minute wait we finally got on the ride and our little ones said,”That was totally worth the wait!” The boys tried out a few other rides and games…everything included in the original price of admission.

Another wonderful day of memories made with our family. What blessings we have been given!

One more family adventure and then we part ways.

I sure love these people.

Peace, friends. Love those in your life. It’s such a gift.
