Kona Painting Day
For something different to do we packed our smallest watercolour paint tray, 2 smaller pads, and our brushes in the hopes of painting together here in Kona, Hawaii.
We would have to share the paints which also meant we would have to find a table. Ideally, we would need a picnic table because it already has the seats. And because it is SO hot here we would be looking for shade as well.
Terry and I randomly drove northwest towards the airport, looking for a park that might fulfill this criteria. Luckily, we met these two local fishermen who pointed us in the right direction. Unluckily, our GPS sent us 17 kms past the turn off!!!! Finally, it said, “Make a u-turn”, which was a bummer but really the worst part about that experience was the money we wasted on gas.
Anyway, the gentlemen were correct in that there was a beach area in this industrial type location and it did indeed have a few picnic tables scattered here and there under lonely trees.
We enjoyed the picnic lunch I packed, were gratified to find a port o’ potty very close by, and played a few rounds of our Tile Rummy game before we settled down to work.
It’s been a very long time since I/we painted with watercolours and it will take a few tries to get more comfortable with the medium but we both enjoyed the experience very much.
The waves were blasting against the rocks every few seconds, there was a pleasant breeze that kept us comfortable, and the view was spectacular.
After freshening up with our showers upon returning to the condo we decided to go out for dinner. Everything is so expensive here! Our parking for 2 hours cost us $20.00! Yikes!
But we will mostly be eating all the groceries we purchased so the occasional dinner or lunch out won’t be horrible in that way.
We enjoyed our burgers at Kai restaurant and it’s a place to which we would return.
P.S. The server above has whipped cream and chocolate sauce on his head because it’s his last day at Kai. Funny tradition.
