Time for Tea

“ Strange how a teapot

Can represent at the same time The

Comforts of solitude

And the pleasures of

Company. “ Zen Haiku

I have always loved tea.

I love tea so much that I have dedicated an entire antique cupboard to collection of all things ‘tea’.

Over the years I have received many a lovely teapot. Above you can see my ‘tea cupboard’.

Moving left to right you will see a Christmas teapot I received from my friend, Louise, one year. Next to that is one that I found at a garage sale . Next to that one is a a cute pot from an antique store. The ‘bride’ teapot I received from my mum for an engagement present. Next one over was a beautiful pot given to me by our daughter, Lana. And finally a pretty pot I also received from my mom one year.

There is something so comforting about sitting down, slowing down, with a ‘cuppa’.

A true warrior, like tea, shows his strength in hot water.” – Chinese Proverb

Last week was a tough one. Having Covid when you are triple vaxxed is more of a forced slowing down of life. You have cold symptoms like any other cold but you have zero energy too. And every day when you wake up you imagine the ‘cold’ to go through its normal pattern of getting worse before it gets better and better. But Covid just seems to be the same every day and one wonders when it will ever stop feeling that way.

So we make a cup of tea and we allow ourselves to rest and drink lots of fluids because that is what is needed. And we are blessed to have the time to ….take the time!

The history of tea dates back to ancient China, almost 5,000 years ago. According to legend, in 2732 B.C. Emperor Shen Nung discovered tea when leaves from a wild tree blew into his pot of boiling water.

I love all kinds of tea. My favourite is English Breakfast with Splenda and cream . My British born dad got us all into tea when we were young and he and my mum still stop for tea after breakfast, in the afternoon with a biscuit or two, and then after dinner.

Recently, I had some friends over and was able to serve them all tea with antique cups on saucers made for holding a cookie. It was fun to be able to actually use these cups again.

Tea is quiet and our thirst for tea is never far from our craving for beauty.” – James Norwood Pratt

Above, (left to right again) you will see a teapot we received for a wedding gift. Next to that is a small, yellow teapot that our daughter, Lana, made for us at school. Next, you can see my creamer collections (well used!), some of my teacups, some teaspoons, and finally, a small, glass decoration.

I not only love tea but I love the shape of creamers, cups, and teapots. I just think the designs are so beautiful.

Funny, that I actually usually drink my tea out of a mug these days.

“When you are drinking tea, it is basically a private conversation between the tea and your individual soul.” – Lu Ann Pannunzio

Well, my friends, it is time for me to make a cup of tea and sit down with my book.

I look forward to sharing a ‘cuppa’ with you soon.

Take care.
