Elk Island Day

I was surprised when my son, “J”, mentioned that he had never ever been to Elk Island. So, of course that was one road trip that we had to plan.

It takes about an hour to get there from our house so we packed a wonderful picnic lunch and were soon on the road in one car packed to the gills with family, food, and even a bug tent and chairs.

The day was hot but we could not go in the lake because of blue/green algae. Instead, we let the children play at the playground for awhile before we headed off to see what we could see at the boardwalk….

The views were pretty despite the green water but it was sooooo hot that our next stop was to get a cool treat before we looked for the elusive bison that live in the park.

I had to take a photo of the unusual truck on the way to the ice cream truck and the cool treats really did help a lot with our overheating bodies.

We had no luck sighting bison on the ‘buffalo loop’ but we did end up seeing a couple just as we were leaving the park.

It was a really nice day and we arrived home to the yummy smells of my slow-cooker roast beef dinner!

Another great day with the fam.
