A Sketchy Time
After saying farewell to our visiting family from Vancouver we spent the afternoon at the pool and hot tub. That evening we treated ourselves to a lovely meal at the “Fish Hopper” restaurant. It wasn’t overly loud but the place was full (a good sign on a Friday night.)
We split a tasty caesar salad and of course a fish dinner. The monchong was very good and came with a creamy artichoke risotto. Terry said he enjoyed the best cheesecake he’s ever had! (…. in house made passion fruit.) I also enjoyed my crème brulée.
The next day…. first day by ourselves in a week… we chose to head out to Old Kona Airport Beach for a picnic and a time for sketching after Terry came back from his workout/walk.
As luck would have it (again!) we found an almost abandoned section of the beach and it had a picnic table under the shade of a lovely tree! This was the perfect place to have our lunch that Terry made. It was a mixed tray of cold, roasted chicken, veg, grapes and apple slices, humus, naan bread and a cookie for dessert.
After lunch we sat in our chairs (we felt we had to buy one for me because the condo only had chairs that I would have trouble getting out of…) and began to sketch.
I haven’t sketched in many years because if I’m doing something artistic in this category I am usually painting, as you know. But it was fun to try and capture a small version of the view. I had to quit early because of pain in my right hand but I stopped at a good place, I think.
I went for a wee walk a few paces down the beach and saw some abandoned boots, blue rocks, lots of coral. and….a submarine!
That evening we enjoyed the hot tub at our (seemingly) private pool area, and later I made us a nice salmon dinner with asparagus, baby potatoes, and fresh pineapple.
I know that we’re all looking at the same moon.
So as I look up I will think of you and thank you for being my friend.
