The Queen

The world mourns of the loss of Queen Elizabeth, who died at age 96 at her beloved Balmoral estate in Scotland. On June 2, 1953, the then 27-year-old's life was forever changed.

I don’t think we could even imagine accepting the power, influence, responsibilities, and so much more at the young age….or any age really.

I remember when I was young, before I ever got to England, I would dream a recurring dream of being in London, England and the day I actually stepped into the real life image of the exact location in my dream gave me chills.

My dad was born in England.

He emigrated to Canada when he was a boy during the war years and returned once again to Canada as a young man where he met my mum at Chrysler’s.

His sister, my Auntie Jean, is 92 and still living happily (if not aware of that…) in England along with my cousins and other relatives.

I’ll never forget the time we were in England, visiting our friends and relatives there, and it just happened to be just after Princess Diana died.

We were on one of the roads where the hearse passed right by us! The people on the street were literally weeping and wailing and the road was covered in roses from the bystanders.

Our Government will have to change the “God Save The Queen” words and so many other traditions to “The King”. When we look at our money we will certainly think of her.

I think a man named “Michael Kram” said it best….

“ The role of the monarchy in Canada may only be symbolic, but Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth 11 proved how very important symbols can be.

She reigned for nearly half of Canada’s existence as a country. Throughout that time, she provided a sense of stability and calm that helped to guide our nation through many turbulent times.

Every year many Canadians, including myself, make a point of watching the Queen’s Christmas message. She always left us feeling that, no matter how unsettled the rest of the world was, the. Queen was still there for us so somehow it would all turn out OK.

She was a surrogate mother to our nation and her passing will leave a hole in our hearts.“

God bless the Queen. May the Queen of Heaven welcome our earthly Queen Elizabeth 11.

The hats! The matching coats! The gloves! The ever present purse! Leaving you with some colour (with thanks to my friend, Bev, and People magazine. )

"Although we are capable of great acts of kindness, history teaches us that we sometimes need saving from ourselves–from our recklessness or our greed."
