Goose Egg, Green Egg, Red Egg.

I spent a lovely afternoon painting my first goose egg of the year. It’s quite a bit larger than the other eggs which makes it a bigger (easier) ‘canvas’ for me but more work to cover with wax. I was very happy with how it turned out.

Then a few days later I asked to come in by myself ( I usually only arrive once a week) to work on a a pysanka and as it turned out I ended up painting two eggs.

It is so much fun to melt off the fully wax covered egg for the big reveal. I love the bright colours and unique designs that I was able to find in the books provided by my friends at the Marian Centre.

The only part I don’t like about the whole process is that the Marian Centre now has a massive, locked chain link fence for safety reasons. They feed the homeless downtown and things can get really dicey down there due to mental illness and drug abuse sometimes. (One of their members was almost killed one day by a man who was not in his right mind.)

But when it’s twenty below and I have to clean my car from snow and take off my mitts to unlock and push open the heavy gate…..and then drive out, push it closed, and lock it again. Well, you get the picture.

We’re very blessed to have these generous friends. And I’m thankful for my ability to do this prayerful, creative activity.
