The Footloose Caboose

Terry and I wanted to take our brother-in-law, Albert, out for a nice dinner to celebrate his retirement.

We all decided that it would be fun to head about an hour south and east of Edmonton for a dinner in a train car at The Footloose Caboose. “goeastofedmonton.com” says about the place….

“A Railcar Culinary Escape!

Why Go?
Great food is amazing. But great food in a wonderfully unique and storied setting? That’s what culinary escapes are made of.

One such place is the Footloose Caboose near Tofield, Alberta. It is a weekend dining retreat – open for brunch on Saturday and Sunday and dinner on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. You can book reservations for an amazing, one-of-a-kind dining experience, or you can book some interesting package deals. How about a cooking demonstration? Book one for your group of six or more and enjoy the demo with a wine tasting. And the results of the food preparation demo, of course!”

We had a beautiful drive out which is amazing because there were storms and even tornadoes reported in the area. It seemed like we were in a protected bubble as we followed the sun to Tofield and even stopped for a family of geese to cross the road.

I’d only been to the FootLoose Caboose in the fall so it was nice to see all the summer flowers in full bloom. Such a picturesque place!

Of course I had to take some photographs of the pretty place….and my pretty sister, Paula.

We were a bit late getting to their home to pick them up for the journey because of construction and the “Art Walk” crowds but we ended up getting to our destination right on time. And boy, were we hungry. Would the food taste as good as we hoped it would?

YES!!!!! Omigosh! The food is cooked in the train kitchen and it couldn’t be any fresher.

Terry and I started off with the sweet chilli broccoli dish and I think Paula and Albert had Bruschetta. We LOVED the tastes.

Albert, Terry, and myself ordered the Weiner Schnitzel ( pronounced VEEner) and it was the best I’ve ever tasted. Paula had Shrimp over spaghetti noodles I think. We all enjoyed our meals very much.

A large brownie was ordered for dessert and I must admit I did have a small bite (I’m on a diet…ha ha) and it was great too.

And Paula and Albert gave us a beautiful card for our 40th.

I highly recommend this road trip to the Footloose Caboose. Lots to do. Lots to see. And great food!
