Adding More Players
2020 saw most artists in lockdown turning to what they knew best to get them through…. THEIR ART!
My husband wrote a musical.
I wrote enough songs to fill a new album and I’ve been working on it ever since.
Good things often take time and I decided that I did not want to rush this album . I had a small window of opportunity to record for my 3rd album and it shows. There are things I don’t love about all of my choices even though I am happy with the writing.
As you know we travel half of the year. This is another reason that the record is taking a lot of time. But I am happy. Every time I have the honour and pleasure of adding another player to the soundtrack the album takes on yet again a new feel.
The music is fuller and so is my heart.
Here of some photos of my new friend, Booker Diduck, who is a renowned pedal steel guitar player. He only plays on one song on my 4th album but I LOVE his work. He brings such beauty to my new song, “Walkin’”. ( SUPER talented and really nice guy.)
I also had the great pleasure of working once again with Audrey Ochoa, She is touted as one of Edmonton’s most prolific players and her debut album, “Trombone and Other Delights” (2014) spent three consecutive weeks as the number one Jazz album on the Earshot Charts. Audrey has earned recognition at the Western Canadian Music Awards, The Global Music Awards and is a recent recipient of the Edmonton Music Prize. She is intuitive and also a really really nice person.
It was SO great that James Seabrook came over to record at our home. Both he and Audrey said the space is wonderful for live sound and it was great for me too so that I didn’t have to manoeuvre the studio stairs. Thanks again, James!
Although it has been raining for the last couple of days the sky turned a charming pink as James was packing up his gear. ‘Bodes well!
