Happy Hydrangeas
I didn’t know this!
When we first purchased our Hydrangea flowers they were blue. Then as the weeks went by a strange thing happened….
They turned white! Currently they are a ‘greenish’ white and they are starting to turn pink with the cooler weather.
I’ll never forget when we had to leave our Calgary home of twenty years and chose to move north to Edmonton because of work opportunities for Terry and our family.
I was so sad about this change that I think I cried most of the way to our new home.
But change can be very good. And although I resisted it, this move ended up being the best thing that could have happened to our family. This different ‘soil’ brought many blessings our way. Terry found a job that brought us years of financial security. We met friends that will always remain dear to our hearts …and we STILL had the gift of the friends we made in our former city. More ‘flowers’ in our garden of friends.
I had to leave my growing career as a professional actress and start over in this new city. But I also had the changes that went along with worsening arthritis in my body and found new, wonderful blessings in becoming an artist/singer/songwriter. Wow!
Our son, Darren, met his future wife here and our daughter, Emma, has met her wonderful partner here too and has a blooming career here in Edmonton with her many bands and her Sound Engineering work .
We love our new home, our church, and our neighbours.
I think many of us resist change because we are comfortable in our old habits…and habitat.
But perhaps we should learn to be more like the beautiful Hydrangea flower and adapt to our different ‘soils’ by changing our own colours.
I’ve heard it said that ‘the earth laughs in flowers’. Let’s find the blessings in each change that will surely come our way. Can we even find a blessing in the change of losing someone we love through death? Yes! We can find peace when we pray for them with childlike trust that God hears us and we can rejoice in the knowledge that we will see them again someday in our new Heavenly home. We can bloom under the care of beloved friends and family who love us and show us they care in many ways.
Peace, my friends. The month has changed over!
Happy September and happy anniversary to Jared and Servane…and Mary and Mike!
