Hugo’s Crèche

Hugo, originally from Columbia, and the new director of the Madonna House group housed in the Marian Centre, brought his tradition with him of setting up a crèche for all to enjoy.

Over the last couple of years, I think it has tripled in size. Hugo asked Terry if he would paint a backdrop for it and Terry has since done three panels for the ever expanding scene .

Hugo’s creation of ‘Bethlehem”.

Allow me to take you on a wee journey of these carefully constructed figures and architecture. Hugo designs and creates most of it. He also has people that have helped him construct parts of some of the buildings and/or who have donated figures, etc.

It is astounding in its attention to detail. I cannot possibly “capture” the many animals, human figures , homes, businesses, foliage, etc., that exist in this miniature world but I hope you will enjoy some of the photos I was able to take. Also, every section has lights upon it, there are nature sounds like birds for you to hear, and many moving parts like a fire or a spinning water wheel, etc.

( Above : Hugo and Terry. Looking left at Bethlehem, Looking right, and Mary and Joseph arriving through the gates of the city. )

He has also filled it will secret/fun things that you may or may not see…. like a boy who just has to relieve himself outside the city proper, a camel’s ‘deposit’ on the road, a tiny mouse, an owl in a tree, a snake in the grass, teeny pots, muffin tins, a wolf on the hills, and many many more wonders.

Enjoy……..

Just a very few of the many many vignettes in this beautiful city that Hugo created.
