A Little Window Project

I don’t really remember where we purchased these antique stained glass windows. But I know we’ve had them for a really really long time.

After our first home reno we hung them from fishing wire at the side of our back deck. It sort of looked like an invisible wall and a pretty one at that.

But the weather took its toll on the frames and the fishing wire wasn’t sturdy enough to keep the frames safe in big winds.

I decided that I would ‘faux’ paint the frames and Terry came up with a sturdier way to hang them.

First , after removing all of the varathane last year, they were ready to be painted with a white under paint I found at an antique store. Each side took time to dry and seal.

Next up: I painted a rough coat of light blue paint to give it an “old paint” look and then it was time to apply the varnish to both sides as well. Lots and lots of drying time in between each step.

Terry did a great job of hanging them this year and instead of the fishing wire he put them in between sturdy pieces of wood that will weather to match the other wood of the pergola.

You can see him power washing the back deck.

Above you can see the before and after.

I decided I wanted the frames hung ‘upside down’ because I think the image looks more like wheat that way. Also the light blue colour matches our backyard pots and umbrella .

I’m happy with the results of this little project. Below you can see another stained glass window we have above the deck.
