Montreal
What a day. Terry and I knew it was going to happen sometime. And it did. The inevitable…. Terry threw his back out . ( Now it wasn’t from reaching for a puzzle piece this time….wink wink to my mum) I knew he was moving more stiffly this morning as we tried to pack up our bags to leave quebec city and sure enough he felt the awful twinge when he reached down in the shower.
We have been through this many times before and the best thing we can do ( besides pray) is to get him into a chiropractor immediately.
We had everything against us : this was our earliest morning to drive -a few hours to get to another city in time for a show. It is saturday and usually chiropractors do not work this day. We had to be in the car for hours . We don’t know any doctors/chiropractors in montreal. Our sound system in super heavy and there is lots of hauling, lifting, bending and assembling . And of course we had to sing which is … an hour of standing for terry !
So : we prayed, asked for prayers , and terry started making calls .
The result ? The second call that terry made was answered by a chiropractor who said she could take terry in at 11:30 am. This gave us exactly the right amount of time to drive to montreal and get to her.
We were able to book massages ( my body is pretty dang sore too!) For 5 pm….just enough time for us to be finished our show, pack up and get there.
When we got to the snowden senior’s residence we found out they could take us in immediately and that we could park in their driveway ( this is important as it is really difficult to find street parking we discovered. The room was super small so we didn’t need to use the sound system !
We could sit and after the show all of our gear was carried out for us by a strong caregiver there. ( Also playing early meant we had time for a lunch)
A funny thing : I looked for an english speaking retirement home. ( Hard to find in french montreal). We did not realize that snowdon residence is a jewish community! I might have changed a word or two in a song or two to not ruffle any proverbial feathers . Also the group forgot or did not know we were arriving. One lady lamented , ” but I thought I was going to get my nails done!” But music does indeed soothe the soul and as we played ,the group started to grow ( I don’t know how it eventually became standing room only…!) , And they warmed up to us with cheers, calls for our information , invites to return, and treats provided too. As we were leaving ,the ‘lamenting woman’ was already surrounded by 3 caregivers who were lavishing nail care extraordinaire upon her.
And as a post script : terry started to feel markedly better after the 2 treatments, after an icing back treatment, hot tub , and ice again .
So we are thankful to god for this day , for your prayers, and for the chance to heal . No shows for a whole week !
