Grandparents’ Day Surprise
We had barely been home from England when we got the request to fly in to Vancouver to surprise our grandsons. We said a resounding “yes” because it was for such a cool reason!
They were having a grandparents’ day at M and I’s school and the idea was that the children would come in from recess and all their grandparents would be in the classroom unbeknownst to them! Love it! So we got up early and flew out in time to be there for 9:45 am.
The children arrived all flushed and loud from recess and then they became all ‘hushed’ and shocked when they saw all these old people waiting for them…ha ha.
Once ‘M’ registered that ‘Nonny and Grandpa’ were there he ran into our arms and soon the festivities began.
Each set of grands were encouraged to read to the children. It is a fully french school so many read in french but one lady did a fantastic reading in english and most of the kids could understand her without translation.
Our daughter-in-law, “S” borrowed 2 guitars from our middle son with the idea that we would sing instead so we surprised her by learning a few songs …in french! ( We don’t speak french so we had to learn them phonetically.)
It went over well and soon it was off to a wonderful lunch in the Kindergarten room followed by the school’s Christmas concert. The school only goes from K to grade 3 so it was not too long and super fun too. “S” did most if not all the decorations (she even brought full size, lit up trees from her own yard!) , as well as organizing the event and buying flowers for the 3 teachers. She is AMAZING!!!!
Next up we surprised “D’s” boys when “J” picked them up from school and brought them to Earl’s for a treat. They were very surprised too of course and we had another delightful visit .
Lastly, we enjoyed a (homemade !) dinner at “S and J’s” where the boys attacked grandpa with pillows.
I climbed back into bed that night at 2:30 am and I was pretty exhausted when I had to get up early to get ready for recording the next day.
These special times are very worth it.
