Scotney Castle

We had time for one last castle on our British adventure. Scotney Castle was nearby so we made our way over to see it and hoped we wouldn’t get too rained upon.

Scotney was a very pretty castle and again so different from other ones we had seen. It was cool to be in the living room where there was a painting on display for the first time in 400 years!

We got inside just in time before the rain and enjoyed our self guided tour but then it was time to check out the beautiful gardens outside. I was just deciding if I had the stamina and knee strength to head down the hill to the ‘old castle’ when the rain once again came fast and furious.( Happy I caught the rainbow photo…and that we had umbrellas with us.)

One great way to escape the rain is to head to the castle cafeteria for lunch and that’s exactly what we did. While Terry was hooking us up with ‘toasties’ and scones with tea I met “Keith” from Wales at the table next to us. He kept us entertained with stories and jokes the whole time! Told us we should find the “Wendsleydale Heifer pub for great food and a ‘glass full of headache’ beer. ha ha. Very nice fellow.

That night we drove on to Sedlescombe to find the “Brickwall Hotel” where in years past we’ve been several times with family. We always swear it was the best service and food we’ve ever experienced.

Well, although the staff is smaller and there weren’t as many menu choices it was still EXCELLENT service and one of our most delicious meals we experienced on the whole trip! Nice to be back but I did miss seeing our friend, Aldo, who no longer works there. (Savario was very good too though.)

It was raining SO much as we made our way over so we didn’t really feel like getting out of the warmth of the car and walking around. So we arrived early for our dinner appointment but were welcomed in to sit, perhaps order a drink, and just relax until our reservation came up. For as long as we’ve made the trip over, there have been geese on the property and this time was no exception. That was fun to see.

The next day was to be our last day in the countryside before we packed up and headed to London.
