Anniversary Getaway

After 10 days of immersing ourselves in the love of our children and grandchildren it was time to take a wee break and head out for a belated wedding anniversary getaway.

Although there is now an open restaurant on site we decided to still bring all of our own food to our beautiful cabin in Rocky Mountain House.

In Alberta we are in our third week (at least) of an incredible heat wave so it was worrisome to hear there would be no air conditioning. We packed up a couple of fans with our usual gear, picked up Timmie’s coffees, and set off to do our usual meandering our way forward.

The canola is in full bloom in the countryside and the vibrant yellows are so pretty to behold.

We passed many farms with broken down barns and the usual number of homesteads inundated with dilapidated vehicles. What’s with that?

We’re getting used to seeing lots of bee boxes as we travel Alberta. I drove up to get a closer look and we considered opening our car window to get a better photograph but ….I’m sure our car would have been overrun with the buzzing beauties.

Lunch in the small town of Warburg saw us getting your classic diner fare (grilled cheese with fries for me, clubhouse for the man.) And we couldn’t help giggling at some of the artwork hung on the walls (still in the original, cornered packaging!)

We were blessed to get an early check in time and very happy to see that despite the lack of cool air conditioning, the ceiling fan and the cabin’s surrounding trees seemed to do the trick of keeping the inside temperature even and comfortable.

And I guess we have proof that after our pandemic hibernating, we are not used to company or the constant busyness of our growing families. After unpacking and reading our books for a bit we could not keep awake and went inside for a 2 1/2 hour nap. Ha ha ha.

No internet here in our cabin so we’ll see if I can get anything posted while we’re away.

Peace, friends.

As we celebrate the gift of each other….celebrate all the goodness in your own lives. We all have SO much of which to be thankful.
