Terry’s Masterwork

I am SO proud of my husband. Well, for many reasons, actually, but THIS time I am proud of what he accomplished yesterday.

After 18 months, 45 sessions, and approximately 130 hours we hung his finished ‘masterwork’ last night.

Terry is not a portrait artist which is all the more astonishing to me. He would ask me for direction sometimes and then grumble, grunt, and yell,”NO!” most times. But then…..he would make the changes needed and if I say so myself…it was better.

I was usually in the studio working on my own painting with him and I think I probably completed at least 18 paintings in the time it took him to do that one! Ha ha. But I also have to work small because of my arthritis (I can’t stand that long, etc.) so my paintings were much easier to complete in that way.

This is a very large painting….60” x 40”…and we have proudly hung it on our music room wall.

When Terry chose the painting from an image we took from a weekend away with our children and grandchildren one year,I was astounded. Although I love painting people I could not imagine painting gazillions of daffodils like that. Ugh. The patience he had to exude to complete this work! I LOVE his treatment of our daughter-in-law, Servane’s,hair, both of their clothes are ‘photo’ real and the grasses are wonderful too.

It seems like yesterday that Terry was just learning how to paint landscapes and look what he accomplished when he put his mind into it. Wow!

It’s not only a beautiful piece but one that will always remind us of people we love and our son, (Servane’s husband) thinks there might be a place for it in his new office in Vancouver…..

Hmmmm. Now, how to get it there?

Well done, Terry. Add it to the list of other things you do so well.
