Pysanky Season

I just love the look of Ukrainian eggs.

Somehow, this year, with the war against the Ukraine still going on for over a year now, it feels like an honour to do this and pray for the suffering people there.

You might remember that when one works on the pysanka eggs one is to pray at the same time. The images are often symbolic but always beautiful.

I chose simple designs for my first two eggs because I always have to remind myself how to use the Kitska tool to sketch with the hot wax onto the fragile egg.

It felt so good to sit in the quiet and work with the designs and dyes while my friends at the Marian Centre (who generously let me work in their home) created new candles for Easter.

I chose a more complicated design for my second pysanka and I really like how it turned out….

You can see the orange dye ( that came after the yellow dye), then taking off the wax to reveal the finished egg.

My first 3 eggs……
