Thanksgiving in Vancouver
We’ve got some funny stories about the Hotel Vancouver.
Surprisingly they do not have handicapped spots. Those would have helped more than just myself, I’m sure!
We did manage to find a parking spot eventually, but shockingly the elevator did not work. What? Terry drove me to the door and when we asked the doorman why it didn’t work he said that Hotel management shut it down because a car burst into flames in the garage recently. Huh?
By this point I had to go to the bathroom pretty badly but when we walked across the ice rink cold floor we realised that the seat we brought did not fit on the toilet. (That’s a first). The nice close up mirror was also broken and hanging down. The wall directly behind our bed was paper thin and we could hear a child screaming as if they were in our room!
After the staff returned an hour after our call to the front desk with a baby potty seat we were getting pretty frustrated. It ended up taking 3 1/2 hours for us to realize that we would have to change floors and go to an accessible room in order to make it work for us. (When Terry decided to just take the hotel elevator down to the front desk because no one was taking our calls, he pressed the button, the door opened, and a lady said, “Thank GOD you are here! I’ve been stuck in this elevator for 10-15 minutes!”)
No King size bed for us in the next room but our senses of humour were certainly intact.
Well….that was until Terry got up and smashed his baby toe into the leg at the foot of our bed. YOUCH!
We saw our families the first night and all weekend until we returned home Tuesday. We enjoyed seeing the long haired grandsons and the beautiful gardens at J and S’s house. Then it was over to D and J’s home for dinner. Wish I could share with you all the adorable photos of the kids but not in this day and age.
Never could have thought that I would see the day when my daughter got her own beer label (she designed it too)…..and that my non-drinker husband would try it !!!!! ( He hated it of course…ha ha ha)
The food! ( J and S hosted the entire family for Thanksgiving dinner) The games played! The laughter! The activities! We even went to see the movie “Wild Robot” as a family…
It is hilarious to me how fast the grandsons learn how to play games they’ve never played before. Very smart. Our friends, T and M brought T’s homemade pies….Yum! J made homemade scones one day. I’m SO happy that our daughter, L, and her husband, J drove all the way over from Seattle. They even brought their homemade (!) ice cream in a freezer bag if you can believe it. We all just love being together so much. One afternoon the Survivor fanatics (like me!) all watched the latest recorded episode together. We had so much fun yelling at the contestants…..ha ha ha.
One of our 9 year old grandsons took the photo of the adults around the table on the deck. Pretty well done, hey?
I hope your Thanksgiving gatherings were lovely too. And if you were alone, know that…..you weren’t.
God’s got you in his heart.
I’m thankful for you too.
