Faithful Friend
Entering your gate is like entering the secret garden. Perhaps what Heaven might be like.
I can’t walk down the path without stopping to breathe in the flowers.
Although it is 35 degrees the shade feels cool enough. Although it is summer the leaves from the overhead tree are falling and swirling around us like an autumn day.
We chat about faith. About our children. About why we think we became the people we are today. I have not known her as long as my ‘forever friends’ . But she is dear. She is beautiful. And strong. Giving and trusting.
She started off her solo journey working with L’Arche in Montreal. She has a heart for others.
She met David and they are soulmates. They love community. They love to bike together and to collect artwork. They love music.
I met my friend when she worked for Young Life in Edmonton.
She is an event planner and has more energy than I could ever hope for.
They have children and grandchildren and many great neighbours and friends too.
They have had summer movie nights in their backyard.
We sit across from each other on one of the back decks and I drink her lemonade while she sips her iced coffee.
We are bonded in our love for God.
Oddly enough I actually know two women with the same first and last name. But the other friend’s first name starts with “K”.
I hope you get to meet Cathy Harvey some day.
You will positively love her positivity.
Thanks for the lovely ‘retreat’ day, Cathy.
