An Old Fashioned Romance
Do you remember those old fashioned valentines that we once received? Now they’re called “vintage” …ha ha.
I actually still have (the first image you see above,) “Peas be my podner”. I also received the kitty cat one when I was in grade school.
Today, most school children (at least before Covid) had to give everyone in the class a valentine so no one was left out. But I remember when I was little we just hoped that at least one person would give us a valentine on that special day.
It’s 2022 and I still love valentines ( and MY valentine). And yes, I know that many people don’t have a ‘valentine’ in their lives and/or their ‘valentine’ is not a romantic…but I love romance!
When my friend, Bev, told me about an “Air B & B” that she stayed in ( rooms on main level!) I knew that I wanted to book a little getaway with my guy for Valentine’s. I was seriously surprised when I received roses early so that I could enjoy them before we left. SO nice.
On Valentine’s Day we took a chance and went big ….we went to not one but TWO restaurants. We enjoyed a nice lunch at the Cactus Club Café and then for dinner we enjoyed a wonderful Italian meal at our favourite Italian restaurant “Tasty Tomato”. Yum!
I’ll never forget my very first Valentine’s Day with Terry. I was so excited! Would I get chocolates? Flowers? A card?
We had a nice afternoon together and nothing yet but when he finally dropped me off at home with no surprises in sight I pulled out my card and said, “Happy Valentine’s Day, Terry.”
And HE said, “Oh, I don’t go in for all that commercial nonsense.” ha ha.
So, I made it clear that as far as I was concerned, that every day is a chance to spread some love but Valentine’s is ALSO a great chance to spread the love and I LOVE IT!
Message received. I’ve been with a romantic guy ever since.
So….we’re off to Sydney, B.C. for a wee getaway soon. Looking forward to this SO much.
Sending love….
Laura
