IT ONLY TAKES A SPARK
WELL, I’M TRYING TO ‘COOK UP SOME KINDNESS’ AGAIN. THERE’S JUST SOMETHING CALMING TO ME ABOUT CREATING IN THE KITCHEN. WHETHER IT’S THE SIMPLE JOYS OF FEELING THE DOUGH IN MY HANDS AS I KNEED IT INTO FORM OR STIRRING THE INGREDIENTS TOGETHER WITH THE ANTICIPATION OF WATCHING COOKIES OR BREAD RISING, I FIND IT ALL RATHER MEDITATIVE.
I MASSAGE THE PIE DOUGH WITH A VERY OLD, ANTIQUE ROLLING PIN ON A FAIRLY NEW, LARGE COUNTERTOP. IT’S A LOVELY SPACE IN WHICH TO WORK AND I AM EXCITED ABOUT SHARING THE FINISHED PIE WITH SOMEONE.
THE SOFT LIGHT STRETCHES THROUGH MY PRETTY VASES PAINTING MY WINDOW LEDGE IN ICY BLUE DESIGNS. THE SOUNDS OF CHICKADEES MAKING A NEW HOME NEXT DOOR CAN BE HEARD ABOVE THE HUMMING OF THE OVEN.
IT IS AMAZING HOW SURPRISING SOMEONE WITH THE GIFT OF BAKING CAN BE POSSIBLY EVEN MORE ENJOYABLE FOR THE GIVER. (I HADN’T SEE MY FRIEND, JAZZ, A TEACHER WHO IS READY TO HAVE HER FIRST BABY SOON OR HER FRONT LINE POLICEMAN HUSBAND, SÉBASTIÈN, SINCE OUR CHURCH CLOSED ITS DOORS.)
TODAY , MY HUSBAND WAS THRILLED TO BE ONE OF THE FIRST PLAYERS BACK ON THE GOLF COURSE NOW THAT THE COVID RULES HAVE RELAXED FOR THIS SPORT. I SPENT THE AFTERNOON TRYING OUT A NEW RECIPE FOR ROAST CHICKEN ACCOMPANIED BY CARROTS WITH FETA CHEESE. WE BOTH GOT TO ENJOY THIS YUMMY DINNER WHEN HE RETURNED.
I WAS THINKING OF A SONG I USED TO SING WAY BACK IN HIGH SCHOOL ….
PASS IT ON
It only takes a spark
To get a fire going
And soon all those around
Can warm up in the glowing
That’s how it is with God’s love
Once you’ve experienced it
You’ll spread His love
To everyone
You’ll want to pass it on
What a wondrous time is spring
When all the trees are budding
The birds begin to sing
The flowers start their blooming
That’s how it is with God’s love
Once you’ve experienced it
You’ll want to sing
It’s fresh like spring
You’ll want to pass it on
I wish for you my friend
This happiness that I’ve found
You can depend on Him
It matters not where you’re bound
I’ll shout it from the mountain top
I want the world to know
The Lord of Love
Has come to me
I want to pass it on
I’ll shout it from the mountain top
I want the world to know
The Lord of Love
Has come to me
I WANT TO PASS IT ON !
