My First Day Back
So. I’m here in Windsor.
You know that expression “ The day started off with a bang”?
Welp. Mine actually did : the sound of me falling hard on my hotel room floor!
I was up, dressed, and just about heading out and over to my parents’ home when the long phone cord I have plugged into the wall, slipped into my sandal as I was walking and literally pulled my legs from under me and I crashed down onto my left side.
YOUCH! Not the best way to start off a day. And to add insult to injury …it’s the second time I’ve fallen recently! (I tripped at my house while trying to get my socks off!)
So after I made sure I hadn’t broken anything, I had to turn over onto my (always sore) knees and try and pull myself up onto the hotel chaise lounge and try to stand up. I used all of my will power (and several prayers) to breathe through that pain and …success!
I’m feelin’ it as of the writing of this blog but I’m o.k.. It might be time to abandon the sandals!
Anyway, today was just a quiet day of being with family. My dad made a coffee for me and my sister, Paula, joked that that wouldn’t help with my after shakiness..ha ha.
I watched my mum cut our dad’s hair. Good ole’ ‘Covid cut’ time. She did a good job too!
Later, Paula’s son, Trevor came to take his mummy out for a day of hiking around some of the pretty, natural areas of the city.
Then mum and dad and I ‘went to mass’ online. It was nice to share that with them.
After a simple but yummy lunch of tuna fish sandwiches on scones with fresh grapes, Mum and I left Dad to his nap while we chatted for a long while. These are some of the moments I miss when living 2,000 miles away. Just simple things like having lunch with my parents and gabbing about whatever comes into our minds.
On the way back to my hotel room I stopped at Shoppers and my daughter-in-law, Servane called me for a chat. Love it! THEN, while we’re catching up, who should I see coming out of that very store but my mother and father-in-law. Joan and Ed!!! Small world.
Next up I had a lovely visit with my niece ,Alaina, and then dinner with my sister, Pamela . (My favourite : homemade lasagna!). Pam and Dave made me feel welcome and loved. Pam and I watched a funny movie from 2000 called “The Closer You Get” . Dated but still good.
This is what this trip is for: being close to family and dear friends too. (Oh, and our sister, Mary, called from “Up North” for a long chat as well!)
There’s no place like home. Now. If only I had an ice pack.
