The Kids in Kits (part one)
It’s been a couple of years but we finally felt safe enough to visit with our Western children and grandchildren for a month.
But this time was the first time we flew ! We had been previously visiting every Spring for years but we would drive across the mountains and take the oft treacherous Coquihalla highway to do it. At this time of year there’s still a lot of snow on the way over and after the 5 highways washed out earlier in the year due to heavy rains we just felt it was time to take an airplane across.
Of course this brings its own challenges because when we live in Kits for five weeks we pack the car to the rafters with stuff for living ….like my guitar, our art supplies, our feather mattress, golf clubs, our portable toilet seat (yes, my knees are THAT bad that I can’t get up from a regular seat!),rain gear, birthday presents, our suitcases, and on and on. Our van is really packed!
So. How do we take an airplane with the luggage limits and still have things we want and need in our new , temporary home? This year we decided to mail things out to our son J and his wife, S, to store in their new home (which they acquire while we’re there!) after we return to Edmonton.
Lots of happy giggles and squiggles the first day with excited grandsons and grandparents alike. We kindly got invited for a lovely ‘tapas’ type , yummy lunch, borrowed their van for the month (!), unpacked at our usual Air B & B nearby, did groceries, and then back again to Jared and Ser’s for a delicious “Make Your Own Salads” dinner!
I’m feeling SO blessed to be here with some of our beloved family. Off to our other son’s family tomorrow……
