The G.W.A. 2024

After a sweet breakfast downtown Windsor at Leonidas we drove east to Chatham, Ontario, to start our. beloved “Girls’ Weekend Away’….our…24th?

We heard it was going to be a hot one and it was! The temperature got up to plus 30! But the Retro Art Hotel is nicely air conditioned and we had beautiful rooms right across the hall from each other.

After settling in we had a nice nachos lunch at The Chilled Cork, the hotel restaurant. The food is so good there. Pamela and I stayed in the “Sail On” room. Each room is themed and we chose two of the rare ‘loft rooms’ for the four of us. These are fantastic because each woman gets their own space at the end of the day. The entire hotel is filled with original art and is so much fun to see.

It was our collective birthday party night that evening and as usual, the gifts were so thoughtful. I especially loved the homemade ones from our sister, Mary. (A picture frame and night light.)

There is something about this weekend away that is so good for the spirit. So many silly laughs, deep talks, times to rest, and times to do activities. We shopped a bit, did some antiquing, stopped into a casino with birthday money, (I actually won!), and enjoyed the movie “If” with Ryan Reynolds about imaginary friends. Lovely.

We had fun posing all over the hotel.

We all found a few bits at the one antique store that was open….

Mass was very nice on Sunday morning ( Pentecost!) and that day we went for a country drive.

For our final dinner we reserved a table at the Starlight restaurant that has this back, curved window hovering right over the river. We had a good time…. if not the tastiest food I’ve ever had.

On Monday morning it was time to pack up but we prolonged our visit by having dinner with Pam and Dave that night where she made us a very tasty homemade pizza. Then we watched the movie “Arthur Newman” which starred Colin Firth and Emily Blunt. It was intriguing.

And now, once again, the much anticipated weekend is over, the memories forever, and we look forward to next year.

‘Love my sisters.
