BUILDING UP NOT TEARING DOWN
STARTING OUR FOURTH MONTH IN ISOLATION.
I AM STARTING TO HEAR RUMBLINGS FROM FRIENDS THAT THEY ‘JUST CAN’T TAKE IT ANYMORE’. A FRIEND AND I WERE CHATTING RECENTLY AND CHUCKLING ABOUT THE IDEA THAT THERE WILL PROBABLY BE A LOT OF DIVORCES WHEN THIS IS ALL OVER…BUT IT REALLY ISN’T FUNNY.
PEOPLE WHO LIVE ALONE ARE SO LONELY AND PEOPLE WHO LIVE WITH OTHERS ARE SOMETIMES GETTING IRRITATED BY EACH OTHER.
WHAT CAN WE DO ABOUT THIS?
I PROPOSE THAT WE TRY AND SPREAD KINDNESS THIS WEEK. LET’S CALL A FRIEND WHO LIVES ALONE . OR CALL ON A FRIEND THAT LIVES BY THEMSELVES WHO COULD USE A CHAT OUTSIDE ON A NICE DAY.
WHAT ABOUT HOW WE TREAT THOSE WE LIVE WITH? DO WE EVEN REALIZE WHEN WE (BIT BY BIT) TEAR EACH OTHER DOWN WITH OUR WORDS? WE MIGHT HAVE STOPPED HEARING OURSELVES. “WHY ARE YOU DOING IT THAT WAY?” “THAT’S STUPID.” DO WE STILL REMEMBER TO SAY A SIMPLE, “THANK-YOU”, WHEN SOMEONE DOES SOMETHING NICE FOR US?
IN ACTUALITY, IT IS SO EASY TO SAY SOMETHING NICE TO PEOPLE. A SIMPLE COMPLIMENT CAN GO A LONG WAY TO MAKE SOMEONE SMILE. “YOU’RE BEAUTIFUL.” “I LOVE HOW YOU TAKE TIME TO READ TO OUR CHILDREN.” “WHAT A YUMMY MEAL YOU PREPARED!”
HOW ABOUT …..EVERYDAY THIS WEEK WE REACH OUT TO SOMEONE IN OUR HOME OR IN OUR LIVES AND SAY ONE NICE THING? I BET IT WILL MAKE US FEEL GREAT TOO!
LET’S BUILD EACH OTHER UP!
