Kona Memorials
In Canada….at least in Edmonton…if someone dies on a bike loved ones set up a white bicycle adorned with flowers at the spot they were hit or crashed. They are called Ghost Bikes and you can find them in the States too.
During our many trips to the island I’ve noticed these memorials sprouting up on the lava rock along the main highway.
They are so unusual and have been there several years some of them.
On the official registry page to request one it says you can only keep them up 30 days… ha ha.
We had to be VERY careful to take these shots with the cars and trucks zooming by us as we pulled over. I didn’t want us to be the next memorial victim!
Beautiful skies as we drove that late afternoon. The memorials contained photos, jewelry, booze ,religious items, clothing, rocks, artwork and so much more….
