Prayerful Reading
I love to read a daily quote that inspires me.
The Madonna House folks once gifted me a daily calendar with a prayerful ‘thought for the day’ and the ‘thought’ tended to reappear in my mind often though out that day.
I mean, what is more inspiring? : reading the horrific news about war or world politics every morning or something prayerful that can keep your mind focused on goodness and God and perhaps even helping to right the wrongs in our world today.
Daybooks are also one of my favourite things to read before I get going in the day.
My friend, Mary, gave me one that I just love called “ Devotions From the Garden", (Finding peace and rest in your hurried life.)
She is an incredible gardener and prayer ‘warrior’. She takes care of her gardens like she does her soul ….with care, devotion, and by paying attention to her actions. And both thrive, I know.
This is gardening season and it is good to remove the weeds that want to choke out our fruits, vegetable, and flowers.
We have weeds that need to be pruned in our hearts and minds as well.
Sometimes I feel so busy or tired. that I find myself just skimming over readings that come into my inbox or from the book at my bedside table.
This week I read the great Brian Morykon who said something that really struck me and stuck with me…..
Prayerful reading isn’t to get through something; it is inviting God to get through to us.
Let’s try and listen to where God might want to lead us this morning.
Let’s get rid of the weeds and make room for beauty to grow within us and be seen by others.
Find a daily prayerful quote! It might just be exactly what God wants you to hear!
