Tilted Steeple Show
Spiritline made it just in time for sound check in the basement of st. Jame’s church. ( I was very happy for the elevator the church happened to have !) What a fun venue : the tilted steeple was started by isabelle delage from montreal. She and her husband , leo, cowrite a lot of her songs and they not only hosted the folk club that night but hosted the performers as well at their home after the concert. Wow !
The tilted steeple show proceeds went to the syrian refugee fund that evening. We were happy to play for this worthy cause. Isabelle is part of the band, plain folk, and there were 4 acts total that night. Terry started us off and received a great response to his songs ( especially ‘ show up naked, bring food’ , his comedy song about the needs of men vrs. Women) .
My turn next and I was gratified to hear the many positive responses I also received about my music. Next up , glenna, a longtime friend of isabelle’s from montreal. Glenna not only sang her own music but signed a couple of songs as she teaches the deaf for her daytime profession . Beautiful. Plain folk have the most lovely sounding songs …. Almost like listening to lullabies . My favourite song of theirs was mary’s rainbow.
After the cleanup and good-byes we all headed over to isabelle and leo’s home for a pizza party. Wine flowed , there were chips to munch on, and lots of fun conversations. I couldn’t believe it when isabelle told us that her daughter knows our son, jared, in vancouver. They went to law school together and camille surmised that we must be related to him since we are all originally from edmonton and share the name, bachynski !
The performers were all pre-invited to stay overnight in isabelle’s beautiful home . They had recently renovated the heritage home and their lovely choices of decorating combined with their waterfront property made the experience so pleasurable. We had a good sleep after a very late night ( for me…ha ha) of chatting and in the morning we were greeted with the smell of good coffee, fresh croissants, cream cheese, jams and fruit. Ooooh…it all tasted so good too.
What good people and what a great start for the ontario portion of the tour.
