Prairie Garden Adventure Day

Our son had to fly to Toronto for work and our daughter-in-law, Ser, had to work from our home so we decided to take the little ones for a road trip out to Prairie Garden Adventures.

It was a lovely lovely day : not too hot, no rain in the forecast, and we arrived just after all of the school children groups had departed. We paid for our tickets which included a tour guide and the day started off with the boys trying out the hay bale maze.

Our guide took us on a tour of the farm by train. My knees ‘don’t do’ climbing anymore so I had to use a stool (which broke!) and then a stump of wood and a heave up from Terry to get in….ha ha.

And although there is not one bit of padding on this crazy, no track train, the boys seemed to love it so I was happy too. We saw a ‘real’ dragon, an old hearse (probably for Hallowe’en adventures), and a wide view of the entire property. Then we stopped at the ‘Gem Mine’.

All of my ‘boys’ panned for gems and were rewarded with quite the 'haul’. “M” actually collects small sea glass and gems so he was particularly happy. Soon it was back on the train and a few other stops to let the boys and us try edible plants (very good!) and a strawberry picking adventure too.

The children were instructed to pick some edible plants for the animals too as our next stop was a bit of a petting zoo. The boys were a tad nervous but got used to the tugs of the goats and lambs and ended up staying quite a while in that area.

Our last stop was at the General Store where we let the boys each pick out a toy and an ice cream/gelato before we headed off for home.

It seemed like everyone had a fun time and that evening we cleaned up, had dinner, and then took the whole gang to the travelling performance of “Aladdin”. It was a super show with bright colours, fantastic music and dancing, and magical things. But one unusual thing happened : the highlight of the show didn’t happen! I guess they had technical difficulties with the big flying carpet scene because the house lights came on and the whole show stopped while trying to sort it out.

Ah well, “L” had to leave at intermission because he ….being just 3 years old and exhausted… needed to get to bed. But “M” and “I” stayed for the whole thing and their questions throughout the whole show were quite endearing.

What a great day!
