An Easter To Remember

Flying out to Vancouver for our spring visit is one of the highlights of our year.

Getting the news that one of our parents hasn’t got long to live is one of the lowest.

So we made a split second decision to leave Vancouver and get flights back to Windsor for Easter weekend.

We had to get up early to catch our early flight so it was such a pleasure to actually be able to sleep on the plane on the way there.

Terry’s sister and her partner were on the same flight (this was a coincidence as they had already planned to spend Easter there) so we drove them in our rental car straight to the hospital.

The patient looked good and we all had as good a visit as you could hope for …considering it was such a sad time.

We spent many hours visiting with Terry’s family and my family and all in all it was a beautiful time together. We even arranged for our dear friend, Fr. Gary to administer the Sacrament of the Sick.

On Easter Sunday, Terry and I joined the Good Shepherd choir and sang at mass (as we always do when we visit).I was SO surprised to see my bestie, Barb, at mass that I burst out crying….for joy!

We had a chance to go the hospital every day for nice visits. But we had a few hours to kill before dinner so Terry and I actually went to a movie (Ghost Busters….which was really fun!) before it was time for Easter dinner at my parents’ home.

What sadness we felt in knowing that someone whom we love is close to death.

What joy we felt in gathering around the tables each night for cards, conversation, giggles, support for each other, good food , and love.

The next day Terry and I had the blessing of having breakfast with Barb. (Before that Barbara and I first attended morning mass at St. Anne’s….which was so beautiful.)

After a ‘farewell’ with Barb until we meet up again in May, God willing, we had one last visit with my sister, Pamela, husband, Dave, and daughter, Alaina. We all watched the hilarious old movie “Galaxy Quest” right up until the time Terry and I had to leave for the Windsor airport.

That night we crawled into bed at 3:30 am.

The next morning we were on babysitting duty for wee “R” back in Vancouver so our daughter-in-law, “J” could continue packing for their impending move to a new home.

Busy times.

Family.

Love.
