Remembering
Lots of celebrations lately.
We had the blessing of being invited to a 70th birthday party for a dear friend, a belated birthday dinner for our brother-in-law, Albert, and then we honoured Remembrance Day at the Military Museum this year.
The basement room was packed with friends and family invited to celebrate our friend, David’s 70th.
We were honoured to be invited!
We’ve been friends with David and Cathy since we moved to Edmonton and became involved with “Young Life”, a Christian group for teens. The food was a potluck affair (soooo good too) and lots of fun speeches.
A week later we also celebrated our brother-in-law Albert’s birthday at a restaurant called The Melting Pot. Both of us had never been there and talk about good food…wow! It was all brought to the table Fondue style and boy, were we full!
The servers took our drink orders and then we looked at a large menu to decide on our appetizer, salad, meat and veg, and dessert options.
We cooked the food right at our table and it was delicious.
We all enjoyed the same appetizers (dipped in cheese) and we all chose the strawberry salad. Yum.
Then it was a time to cook the meat, (chicken, beef) in a a bourguignon type sauce and Paula and I had a pasta as well while the men had shrimp. All very tasty.
Finally, Albert had a nice, wee birthday cake and we all cooked marshmallows and other treats by dipping them in salted caramel chocolate. We’ll be back.
Lastly, we spent a part of Remembrance Day at the Military museum where we enjoyed all the displays, the band, the stories, and of course a solemn prayer time at taps. Paula joined us.
There were tons of families there so we wore our masks. Covid is back here in Edmonton.
We thanked the veterans for their service and it was fascinating to find out that some of our neighbourhoods are named after some of these heroic military men….like General Griesbach.
We couldn’t believe someone made a cigar box out of a mountain goat head! I found out that menus were not like they are today. They were presented in a frame! I loved learning about so many interesting things in the displays like the coyote pup mascot!
I can highly recommend the military museum as a way to commemorate Remembrance Day!
