“ ‘Bestie’ Weekend” (part 2)

On Saturday, after breakfast, we had some fun singing together. I had the chance to sing my two newest tunes for the girls and Rose and I played oldies but goodies for us to enjoy.

We decided that we would like to check in with our dear friend, Sr. Bern, who lives in Chatham and to our delight she was available !

On the way out we did our daily prayers together in the car … like the Rosary and The Chaplet. It feels holy to be together and pray. LOVED it.

We met Sister Bernadette years ago when we were teenagers at a retreat weekend called “COR”. We remained friends ever since and this year Sr. Bern will turn 90!

She looks amazing, really only her hair colour looks very much different and the fact that she walks with a walker due to some lower back arthritis. Wow!

The first thing we needed to do was all have a Covid screening test but actually it did feel good to know that were all healthy.

Sr. Bern gave us a tour of the place which is now St. Angela’s Meadow Retirement Home. Unfortunately, the number of sisters just keeps dwindling so they had to allow the new owners to turn their home into a place that will soon be open for the general public to rent. Although many of the religious articles have been removed, it is still such a beautiful testament to Our Lord through the chapels that are still there and the beautiful women too.

I figured we’d have about a half an hour visit and then check out the town but in reality we had such an enjoyable tour and good conversations that we were actually there for two hours visiting!

After our lovely visit we drove over to St. Mary’s Catholic church for mass.

The church looked to me to be vintage 1970’s maybe and a nice, half circular shape. It all seemed quite pleasant …..

…..until the musicians started!

O.K. , as a leader of song at my own church, I know that these dear folks volunteer their time and talents most likely at least once a weekend. God bless them for this.

But, thank goodness I was wearing my covid mask because the female singer was SO off key and LOUD that it just cracked me up….ha ha ha. Just take a mic and sing as loudly off key as you can into it and you get the picture.

After a perch/broasted chicken dinner at good ole’ Jacks we returned to the Air B & B to get in our ‘ jammies’ and play “Catch-Phrase” and then finish off the evening by watching comedian Tom Papa on Netflix. Our faces hurt from laughing.

Parting shots : Us, a cool building in Blenheim, our resident mama robin on our back deck, and a sunset one night.

Already my heart is missing a couple of its pieces with our good-bye the next day. I’m blessed to still be near Barb for a few more days though.

Thank-you for your ‘forever friendship’ my ‘besties’. See you on Zoom.
