PETROGLYPHS
TODAY TERRY AND I DECIDED TO DO SOME EXPLORING. WE HEADED OUT TO A PARK WE HAVE NEVER BEEN TO CALLED KALOKO- HONOKŌHAU, THE OLDEST HISTORIC NATIONAL PARK IN THE AREA. WE HEARD THERE WERE PETROGLYPHS THERE ( ANCIENT ROCK CARVINGS ) SO WE DECIDED TO CHECK THEM OUT.
I HAVE NOT BEEN ON A HIKE FOR YEARS AND YEARS. BUT BECAUSE I HAD MY LEFT FOOT AND ANKLE REBUILT LAST YEAR AND DO NOT USUALLY HAVE TO WALK WITH A CANE I DECIDED TO GIVE IT A GO.
IRONICALLY I DID USE A CANE BECAUSE WE WERE HIKING ON LAVA ROCK AND IT WAS UNEVEN GROUND AND ABOUT 3 KMS. THE SUN WAS BRUTAL TODAY AND THERE WAS NO SHADE . BUT IT WAS A QUEST TO FIND THESE PETROGLYPHS SO I WAS DETERMINED TO DO SO.
LUCKILY I ASKED A PASSERBY IF THEY HAD SEEN THEM ON THEIR JOURNEY AND APPARENTLY WE HAD JUST PASSED THEM ALL SO WE TURNED BACK TO A SMALL BOARDWALK THAT WE HAD NOTICED. THERE THEY ALL WERE AROUND THE BOARDWALK AND EVEN IF I HAD CHOSEN TO WALK AROUND EARLIER I MIGHT NOT HAVE NOTICED THEM AS THEY WERE SO FAINT UNDER THE BRILLIANT SUN.
I HAVE ATTACHED A FEW PICTURES OF WHAT WE SAW THERE. IT APPEARED THAT SOME WERE ANCIENT GAMES ( LIKE A SORT OF CHECKERS) AND OTHER PICTURES OF PEOPLES AND WRITINGS.
I AM GLAD WE GOT TO WITNESS THEM AND AM ALSO VERY PROUD THAT I ACTUALLY WALKED THAT FAR…WITHOUT INJURING MYSELF!
THE PHOTO OF THE MARGARITA WAS TAKEN AT OUR MEXICAN DINNER TONIGHT. I DECIDED TO CELEBRATE AND RAISE A GLASS TO OUR 5TH GRANDSON. WE WELCOME LEO JOSEPH BACHYNSKI INTO THE FOLD.
