MY LATEST PORTRAIT

AFTER WEEKS OF WORKING ON THIS FAIRLY LARGE PORTRAIT I AM VERY HAPPY TO SHARE THE FINISHED PAINTING.

I CALL IT “EMMA” AND IT WAS A PHOTO I HAD TAKEN WHEN OUR DAUGHTER, EMILY, WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL I THINK. SHE IS WEARING A CREAM, SATIN WEDDING DRESS THAT I WORE IN HIGH SCHOOL WHEN I PLAYED “MISS JULIE” IN THE PLAY OF THE SAME NAME.

I ENDED UP KEEPING THAT COSTUME AND ASKED EMMA TO POSE WEARING THE DRESS BECAUSE I THOUGHT I MIGHT DO AN OIL PAINTING OF THE IMAGE SOMEDAY. AS IT TURNS OUT, I DID THE PAINTING IN ACRYLIC AND ADDED SOME SYMBOLIC DETAILS TO SHOWCASE TWO SIDES OF OUR GIRL.

I ADDED THE SKULL ON THE TABLE IN THIS GOTHIC TYPE IMAGE BECAUSE EMMA’S SYMBOL FOR HER BAND “BAD BUDDY” IS A SKULL. SO THIS COULD BE TWO SIDES OF OUR EMILY : 1) THE SERIOUS, QUIET SIDE AND 2) THE LOUD, INDIE/PUNK/ROCK TYPE MUSICIAN IN BAD BUDDY.

YOU CAN SEE MY PROGRESSION IN A FEW OF THE IMAGES I TOOK DURING THOSE MANY SESSIONS OF PAINTING…ENJOY!
