An Exciting Return Home
We sure enjoyed our five days away ….the new flowers, the green grass, the mild temperatures!
It was good for the soul but before we knew it, it was time to pack up and board the plane home.
Finding out it was -21 was a little hard to take but that is winter in Edmonton so not a surprise.
What WAS a surprise was finally walking into our home and hearing the loudest ‘chirps’ all over the house because every single smoke alarm was ‘yelling’ . ARGHHHHH !
Terry and I tried everything to make them stop. Terry got on a ladder and unscrewed them (they are wired in and no battery back ups). Nope. Still loud chirps.
While he was trying to do this to all of the smoke alarms, I was ‘Googling’ …”How to stop wired in smoke alarms from beeping’ and ‘why are they beeping?’
We called my sister, Mary’s son, Mitch, who is an electrician but we couldn’t get ahold of them.
But ,suddenly, when Terry discovered that 2 of the offensive ‘chirps’ were also emanating from wired-in Carbon Monoxide Detectors we decided to call the Fire Department to make sure we were safe.
We were. We are. No fumes detected so we were told that the machines were all telling us that they needed replacing. Phew.
Talk about an ‘alarming’ welcome home!
