For The Love Of Golf
We all know that people sometimes hate the game they love : Golf!
It seems like it should be so easy…just whack a ball with a big club and get it onto the green. Gently put the ball into the hole and onto the next golf hole. Right?
Well, I can say that my husband ‘makes’ it look easy. He absolutely loves the game and I actually used to play it with him before I had such mobility difficulties. I still have clubs and am hopeful that someday soon….
Anyway, I’m sure he would love to play every famous club in the world but he has at least played at a few of the classics, among them St. Andrew’s in Scotland.
Golf has been played at St. Andrew’s Links for 600 years. In 1552 Archbishop Hamilton's Charter recognized the right of the people of St. Andrew’s to play golf at the Links. It has one of the oldest courses in the world, the Old Course.
Terry has some fun stories from his games there (Like being matched up to play with a man who ended up not only being from Canada too, but our city, AND a member he had never met in his own golf club!!!) and some wonderful memories of those special chances he had to play there ( on a trip with myself and his parents and another time with friends and ourselves.)
The other night was just the most delightful weather: warm still, lovely light, and not too buggy. The two of us went round for what turned out to be 12 holes instead of nine. Until a storm suddenly blew in and we had to abruptly leave.
Last time we spoke with one of our friends about golf he said that the last time he played he threw his club into the bushes because he was so frustrated. Then, when Terry asked him if he’s like to play with him at the Mayfair, our friend said, “YES”!!!! For the love of golf!
Terry tells me he loves practicing as much as playing the game and he also loves his golf lessons. I can see how much Terry’s improved from his weekly lessons and I’m glad Terry has made so many friends from his club too.
It’s exercise in a gorgeous setting….sounds good to me!
