Jason and me with my gift for him : and Edmonton Eskimos Gnome
Handsome man on the birthday cake
Jason and his father, John
I enjoyed a nice visit with birthday boy , Jason Homyshin , today. Son. Friend. Songwriter. Inspiration. One does tend to feel weird about cutting out pieces of the cake with a that kind of image on top…ha ha. All the best for a better 2016, my friend. May you be blessed with knowledgable , kind, strong and trustworthy caregivers from now on. And good health , of course…..
We have had only time for creating one thing over here in Edmonton : a home that our children can come back to for Christmas. All other creative ventures were put on hold …..well sort of….I guess I did manage to create one new painting and my 3 newly illustrated books by Sandy Smith got published in time for the big day…..while we unpacked and unpacked and sorted and gave away and unpacked and then completely decorated .
Christmas was a wonder this year. We now live back in our newly renovated home with its lovely , big covered porch and the warm atmosphere inside. We filled the rooms with our wonderful family : our four adult children, their wives and husbands and a new boyfriend for our youngest daughter, Lana. We also felt so full of love for our 2 new grandchildren ( 8 and 9 months old ) Myro and Otto respectively.
Every day we laughed over the sounds of someone playing the piano or a game in the dining room. The Christmas day gifts were incredible as we had a mandate to make each gift using the talents God gave us.
There were homemade jams and hand sewn ornaments, designed tins filled with homemade sweets and a knitted sweater from our daughter, Emily, who only learned to knit ….for that gift ! We even received a published BOOK (!) from my husband, Terry, about the joys of fatherhood called ” Until My Work is Done ” . Wow !
We were blessed to eat delicious meals and share our home with friends too.
Now the children have returned to their homes and we miss them. But we have an art studio and a music room and I look forward to creating in this beautiful home . Come for a visit ! You are welcome here.
During these dark days of terrorism around the world and most recently in Paris, France, I find myself ruminating over and over again about the senselessness of it all.
I find the world such a beautiful place, such a gift . So along with daily ( hourly !) prayer I choose to combat the darkness with joy.
Art will go on in my little world and so will laughter and family and friends and love. I will not let fanatics dictate how they wish I would live…in fear.
And so I continue to have the blessing of creating. I just found out I am on ‘ Women of Substance Radio ‘ …alongside my FAVOURITE singer songwriter in the world …Sara Groves. I am So completely honoured.
Also I have had the honour of being asked to illustrate children’s books for my new friend, Sandy Smith. I have just picked up the newly printed books and they look amazing.

I can’t believe how many concerts I’ve participated in lately !
The music is flowing and my spirits are raised on high . We had such a wonderful concert last night at St. Andrew’s United Church. People from all faiths , colours and creeds joined together to raise money for this worthy cause and to say ” Au Revoir ” to our friend , Jim McCloskey, who leaves today to teach ESL in Thailand.
We sang a nice mix of originals and covers and had audience participation on several of the songs.
So many things to do on a Thursday night and so many causes and yet we had the most wonderful audience.
Blessings to you , Jim, on your exciting journey……
