Easter saw/sees me spending quality time with my family in Vancouver. What a BEAUTIFUL time to visit this province! Rehearsing is just a joy as I look out of my wee apartment window onto the small , as of yet green garden. Perhaps a new song will emerge this week .
Only one more week here and then off for the whole month of May to the Eastern Canada leg of my tour…starting with London, Ontario. I can see why people call it the ‘gift’ of music.
My heart is full. And so was the room…ha ha ! What an incredible evening we all had last night. Sold out house, tight band, great sound again from my daughter, Emily Loewen, and the most supportive, wonderful audience. I still can’t believe that I am even living this incredible dream of creating music …and that people are finding some joy in it all. The Holy Spirit moves in amazing ways and I am so honoured to share this gift . I think everyone had a good time . I KNOW I did. Thank you to everyone who was able to attend and to those who couldn’t…you were missed!
O.K. this is SO odd but you would have to GUESS how to find the ticket link . There is obviously a glitch in the website but here is how it works every time :
Click on the April 5th date and the address should appear for the show. Then scroll your cursor down a couple of lines and double tap/click the blank space underneath the address and you will go straight to the ticket link for YEGlive.
Man! It is SO much fun to have a job like this. I feel so blessed to be able to share my music with others and to be able to play with such talented friends and family members. Had a fun rehearsal last night….getting close now to my home town concert.
Tickets are flying away for this exciting event in my hometown . The show will be filled with many of the new songs from Hope Is , at least one from my first album, Waiting, and even a brand new, unrecorded song.
The Edmonton band is made up of 5 of the best local talents you could hope to hear ( surprises for you) as well as many of my own incredibly talented family members : my husband ( funny and fun opening act) and electric bass/vocals, my sisters, Paula and Pamela ( all the way from Ontario) on harmony vocals, my brother in law , Albert – alternating on piano and djembé drums, his daughter, Natanielle, will arrive from Winnipeg to play a sultry cello . And our own daughter, Emily , will be making us all sound good!
It is such an honour to share my music with you. But , honestly, I don’t really view it as ‘my’ music. ( Thank you to The Holy Spirit who gives me an occasional nudge or two as I strive to create uplifting , Spirit filled, inspirational music.)
February 22nd was a cold day but the atmosphere in the National Music Center was SO warm and welcoming! I am so very very pleased with our CD Release.
We had a near to full house and I saw lots of familiar faces and lots of new ones too. My band was just so tight. The music was so beautiful at times that I was close to tears. My wee children’s choir sang my ‘African’ tune Close Your Eyes and got a lovely response from the audience. I saw tears in THEIR eyes at that point. I presented 14 new tunes and one from my last CD, Waiting as well. Hope filled the room when Paula and I tag-teamed in telling her cancer story. But we got through it and ended with ….HOPE!
I cannot believe that months and months of preparation are finally nearing fruition with my first CD Release this Saturday at the National Music Centre. My sister, Mary, and fellow singer arrives tomorrow from Ontario to add her smooth vocal harmonies . Only 2 more rehearsals this week and we ” drive down to Cowtown ” . The band is huge and amazing. I have an incredible horn player/ digital strings player ( Dominique Roy) flying in from Edmonton to join us …even though he has to leave his own weekend music festival to do it! I have Thom Golub on Stand Up Bass , Albert Felicitas on Djembe drums and grand piano. Garry Sylvester , a Calgary native will be lending his wonderful flute playing to the mix. I love my drummer, Dean Pierno, who is also making the trek down from Edmonton. My sister, ‘ the miracle girl’, Paula Drew will be singing with Mary and of course my gorgeous opening act ….Terry Bachynski ….will be with me on stage for electric bass.
And : I have a surprise for the audience ….the children’s choir from Falconridge School , Calgary, will be coming up on stage to sing Close Your Eyes, a song I wrote about Africa.
I am so very hopeful that we will have a great audience and it is my goal to share a little bit of what I have learned about HOPE in 2013.
