Your Home Is Your Castle

These are some of the homes that caught my eye as I walked or drove around Edmonton this past summer and fall. I was attracted to all ….except one : the “castle”. ha ha

We have many different styles of homes here from the poorest of the poor like any city and the grandest ones too. We have a new type of home here that we’re calling ‘skinny houses’ which are actually expensive infills that are popping up everywhere. Many of these appear to be ‘fishbowls’ filled with stairs. No curtains or blinds and you better have good knees! Very modern and they’re selling fast.

Skinny houses along 102 Ave., in Edmonton's Glenora neighbourhood on Wednesday.

I saw a movie the other night called Locked Down. It was the first movie I’ve seen that addresses our current Pandemic situation. It had everything in it from Zoom work calls that temporarily freeze up mid-sentence to the people on the calls drinking, smoking, and not wearing pants. ha ha. ( Very good movie on Crave by the way. )

What is going on in your house? Are you at peace or at war? Are you just going through the motions and waiting for ‘normal’ to return?

The powers that be are saying that this could be the new normal for quite some time. I am very blessed to live in a nice, loving home. But I don’t always have peace in my heart. I worry about my parents, my family, Covid, my friends and their safety, and my own health too.

Matthew 7:24-27 …..

“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”

Let’s remember to speak a kind word to each other today. Your home can be your castle, a place of refuge from the storms of life.
